The much-awaited auction of 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) kicked off in style as the franchises splurged hefty amount from their purse on many prominent players. Chris Morris and Pat Cummins grabbed the headlines after Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders snapped their services for 10 crores and 15.5 crores respectively.

However, many players proved unlucky as they failed to garner any bids when they went under the hammer. One such name was Bangladesh’s Mushfiqur Rahim, who went unsold with no bidders showing interest in acquiring his services. The 32-year-old had initially pulled out of IPL 2020 auction, according to reports. However, the right-hander was drafted back into the players’ list ahead of the much-awaited auction.

Rahim was expected to initiate a bidding war in the auction. The wicket-keeper batsman was expected to attract bids from Kolkata Knight Riders, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Capitals– who were in pursuit of a wicket-keeper batsman to bolster their squad. However, the franchises were not interested in acquiring the services of the former Bangladesh skipper.

The Bogra-born batsman was a part of the IPL auction twice, but he remained unsold despite not having a high base price. A month ago, he had played an impressive knock against India at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. The knock had propelled the Tigers to their maiden T20I victory against India after eight defeats.

Mushfiqur Rahim is yet to make his IPL debut

Currently, Mushfiqur is leading Khulna Tigers in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). With a vast amount of experience under his belt, Mushfiqur has played 216 ODIs for Bangladesh and has gathered 6100 runs at an impressive average of 36.30. Yet to don the jersey for any IPL franchise, Mushfiqur has played for several franchises in Bangladesh Premier League.

After Mushfiqur’s failure to attract any bids, Twitter erupted in no time. Netizens trolled the wicket-keeper, especially for the fact that he had first decided to opt out of the IPL 2020 Auction. He had set his base price at 75 Lacs INR.
