On this tour of South Africa, Rohit Sharma’s batting form has been all about a hundred or nothing. Since the first ODI, he has scored a couple of 15s and two 20s, a five, two ducks and a hundred. He struggled in the first four ODIs then got a hundred in the 5th ODI a knock that was a perfect representation of his abilities as a limited-overs batsman but he hasn’t quite been able to carry on the momentum since.

In the 2nd T20I against South Africa, the Indian team had a great chance to bag a win and take the T20 series as well. JP Duminy won the toss and asked the visitors to bat first. It was as good a batting surface in Centurion as a batsman can ask for and thus the Indians didn’t mind batting first. Shikhar Dhawan has been in exceptional form and the duo was expected to give them a flying start.

But Rohit clearly didn’t arrive and lasted just 5 balls and couldn’t even open his account. Junior Dala who had dismissed the right-hander in the first T20I struck him in front of the stumps here as well and the umpire had little doubt in raising his finger. Dhawan scored 24 and the new No.3 Suresh Raina played freely once again almost cementing his place in this T20 team.

They had a 43-run partnership and laid a good platform for the remaining batsmen. But India lost two quick wickets and at 45/3 the Proteas had the upper hand. Thereafter Manish Pandey displayed why he is such crucial player for this team. He stuck in their first had a partnership with Raina and then added 98 runs for the 5th wicket with MS Dhoni.

Pandey stayed unbeaten on 79 from 48 balls while Dhoni who had been criticized for playing slow in the preview few games was at his best and knocked his 2nd T20I fifty. He ensured India got to 188/4 in their share of overs with his 28-ball 52. The total wasn’t enough as batting got just easier at the SuperSport Park and South Africa chased it down with 6 wickets and 8 balls to spare.

Twitterati doesn’t miss a single opportunity to troll Rohit who enjoys a bitter sweet relationship with a majority on social media:
