After a crushing defeat at the hands of the visiting Sri Lankan side at Dharamsala, team India wishes to leave no stone unturned in the Mohali ODI. The second ODI will be a do or die encounter for the hosts as the series would be at stake for them. Amidst this backdrop, young Tamil Nadu all-rounder, Washington Sundar, has been rewarded with his international cap. Ravi Shastri presented him the cap.

Sundar has been in a prolific form in the recent times in the domestic circuit. His rise to the top at the bare age of 18 has been phenomenal. Sundar made his first impact at the big stage whilst being a part of the India U19 team. But his claim to fame arrived earlier this year when he turned up for the Rising Pune Supergiant in the IPL.

Albeit he is a quality batsman, the RPS camp fielded him as their lead spinner. He responded well by bowling highly economical spells throughout the tournament, including the big finals against the Mumbai Indians. The fans and the pundits knew straightaway that this young lad has some serious talent.

Soon, he was seen in the Duleep Trophy and he responded well by performing exceptionally well with both bat and the ball for his side en route their championship win. Playing for Tamil Nadu in the Ranji Trophy, he continued his good performances and was on the fringes of an international call in the Australia series.

However, he failed the yoyo test and had to wait a little longer for the big moment. He cleared the test recently and was named in the India’s T20I side. An injury to Kedar Jadhav ahead of the ODI series fetched him the ODI call up too, as a replacement for Jadhav.

Here is how the Twitterati welcomed Washington Sundar:
