Two members tested COVID-19 positive ahead of Senior Women's Challenger Trophy

The BCCI might now increase the quarantine period from 3 days to 6 days.

The 2021 edition of the Women’s Challengers Trophy is slated to be held from 4th December to 9th December. But then, Covid-19 might put the tournament in jeopardy.

News has come that 2 people involved with the Women’s Challengers Trophy have tested positive for Covid-19 and the results for the second Covid test are still awaited.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had also reduced the quarantine time for players from 6 days to just 3 days as well, but with the Covid scare, the BCCI might go back to the 6-day quarantine period rule, with the scare of the new Omicron variant around.

“There is a Covid scare at Women’s Challenger Trophy at Vijayawada. Couple of them have tested positive. Results of the second test awaited. BCCI reduced no of quarantine days from six to three. They may have to go back to six with Omicron scare around,” tweeted a Twitter handle by name Venkata Krishna B.

India Red won the previous edition of the Women’s Challenger Trophy

The previous edition of the tournament (2018) was won by the India Red side. However, The India Blues have dominated the Women’s Challenger Trophy, and have emerged triumphant in the competition on 5 occasions.

The 2019-2020 edition of the tournament did not take place due to the Covid-19 scare. Also, the 2021 edition of the tournament will take place according to the round-robin format, with the top two sides qualifying for the summit clash of the tournament. The 4 teams that will participate in the 2021 edition of the competition are India A, India B, India C, India D.

But, with Covid-19 once again raising its ugly hood, it remains to be seen if the tournament will go as per plan.
