Day 2 of the Under-19 Asia Cup 2021 saw Bangladesh U-19 thrashing Nepal U-19 by 154 runs at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. It was indeed a one-sided affair as the Nepal team never really looked in the hunt. While many of their bowlers were taken to cleaners, their batters also couldn’t leave a significant impact. The show was stolen by Prantik Nawrose Nabil, who slammed a brilliant ton and also walked away with the Player-of-the-Match award.
Speaking of how the entire game panned out, Bangladesh U19 won the toss and opted to bat first in Sharjah. The Bangla Tigers didn’t get off to a great start as openers Mahfijul Islam and Iftakher Hossain scored 17 and 21 respectively. However, in walked Nabil at number three and a batting exhibition was on display.
Prantik Nawrose Nabil stole the show with a remarkable century
He joined forces with Aich Mollah and the duo added 38 runs for the third wicket. However, the big and impact partnership was recorded between Nabil and wicketkeeper-batter Md Fahim. The two batted with precision and knocked Nepal team out of the contest. While Nabil went onto the reach the three-figure mark, Mollah scored a half-century.
Fahim eventually got retired hurt but not before scoring a 54-ball 58. On the other hand, Nabil remained unbeaten, scoring 127 off just 112 deliveries. As a result, the Bangla Tigers advanced to 297/4 in their allotted 50 overs. Chasing the stiff target, Nepal need a couple of significant knocks, which they couldn’t get.
Tanzim Hasan Sakib and skipper Rakibul Hasan made the new ball talk as Nepal lost three wickets inside powerplay overs. Number-four batter Bibek Magar tried to steady the ship but didn’t receive substantial support from the other end. At 76/5, Nepal looked entirely down and out and many didn’t back them to even cross the 100-run mark.
Bibek Yadav and Gulshan Jha played some fine shots lower down the order to narrow down the margin of defeat. As a result, Nepal got bundled out for 143, losing the contest by 154 runs.
