U19 World Cup 2022: VVS Laxman interacts with Uganda players after match against India

Continuing their sensational run in the ongoing Under-19 World Cup 2022, India U19 recorded their third consecutive win. Uganda was the latest side to go down against the Boys in Blue. The victory couldn’t have been more comprehensive for the Indian team as they outplayed Uganda in all three departments. After posting a massive 405/5 while batting first, Indian bowlers bundled Uganda out for 79, taking their side to a 326-run win.

Meanwhile, National Cricket Academy (NCA) head VVS Laxman, who’s a part of Indian team’s support staff, visited the Uganda U-19 team’s dressing room after the conclusion of the game. While the former Indian batter is in West Indies to monitor the performances of young Indian players, he decided to impart some valuable advice to the upcoming Uganda players.

VVS Laxman gives valuable advices to young Uganda players

The official Twitter page of the Uganda Cricket Association shared some pictures of the Indian legend’s interaction with the players. “Indian Legend @VVSLaxman281 visited our camp yesterday after the game and gave some advise to the boys after our game aganist India U-19. Thank you Laxman Bhai,” read the caption of the post.

The 47-year-old responded to the post and wished the team best of luck. “Enjoyed talking to the boys, and I wish them and Uganda cricket all the success going forward. #U19CWC,” he replied. Speaking of how the game panned out, Uganda U-19 team won the toss and elected to field in Tarouba. Angkrish Raghuvanshi (144 off 120 balls) and Raj Bawa (162* off 108) made a mockery of Uganda bowlers as India amassed a mammoth 405/5 in their allotted 20 overs.

Notably, Bawa also broke Shikhar Dhawan’s record for the highest score by an Indian batsman in the U-19 World Cup. The latter had slammed 155* against Scotland in the 2004 edition. Uganda U19 never really looked in the chase as they lost wickets at regular intervals. As a result, they were skittled out for a paltry 79 in 19.4 overs. Nishant Sindhu claimed a four-fer, while Rajvardhan Hangargekar picked up a couple of wickets.

While Uganda has now been knocked out of the title-winning race, India U19 will meet Bangladesh in the second quarter-final on Saturday (January 29).
