Fast bowler Hasan Ali forayed into international cricket as one of Pakistan’s brightest prospects in all three formats of the game. He was the leading wicket-taker in One Day Internationals in 2017, having picked up 45 wickets from 18 matches at an average of 17.04. The 24-year-old also became ICC’s Emerging Player of the Year in 2017 owing to his stupendous bowling performances.

However, the current year hasn’t quite been impressive for the speedster from Mandi Bahauddin in Punjab. He was lacklustre in the Asia Cup and was thereafter sidelined from the Test squad against Australia in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The seamer also wasn’t quite at his best in the recently concluded ODI and T20I series against the Aussies and New Zealand respectively.

Gul shares an advice for Hasan

In the meantime, Umar Gul, the discarded Pakistan pacer who last donned the national colours a couple of years ago, reckons Hasan is a potent bowler and it’s only a matter of time after which he will get back his rhythm. He also put forth the importance of refurbishing one’s repertoire with the progression of career as the oppositions gradually get to know about the strengths and weaknesses of the players.

“I’m not too worried about Hasan Ali’s current form as all bowlers go through ups and downs in their careers. Sometimes a loss of form can be down to fatigue and too much cricket and mentally and physically you become tired due to playing continuously. I’m not overly concerned about Hasan as I believe he is a very capable bowler,” he was quoted as saying in Pak Passion.

“What can happen is that when you are new to international cricket, opposition teams do not know too much about you and you have that surprise element, but after a while the opposition become familiar with your bowling and that can cause issues as they are then wary of your strengths and weaknesses as a bowler. Then as a bowler you need to come up with some different plans and some new ideas and that is probably what Hasan will have to do,” he added.
