The build up to the 2018 edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) has already begun. The franchises have started working out their strategies for the tournament. PSL 2018 promises to be a bigger affair than the previous editions. Also, the edition will see a new team in Multan Sultans take the field. Recently, the members of the Multan Sultans – including mentor Wasim Akram – played a friendly game.

Interestingly, the team mentor, Wasim Akram also participated in the match. The friendly match was a T10 between Wasim Akram Sultan XI and Shoaib Malik Tufan XI. In the match, the Wasim Akram-led side registered an easy 7 wicket win. Shoaib Malik’s side batted first in the match and posted a decent total of 73/6 in their stipulated 10 overs.

The highest scorer for the Tufan XI in the match was Umar Siddiq who scored a handy 32 runs. Meanwhile, Imran Nazir contributed with crucial 28 runs. For the Wasim Akram-led side, bowler Sohaib Maqsood was the star of the show. He scalped a hattrick in the match. For the crowds that had gathered at the venue in Multan, Wasim Akram also bowled a few overs.

He returned with a wicket to his name too. Akram dismissed the opposition skipper Shoaib Malik. Funnily enough, the dismissal turned out to be a bizarre one because of the umpire’s decision. Akram bowled a delivery wide outside the off stump line to Shoaib Malik. Malik ended up chasing the delivery and got a faint edge. The wicketkeeper completed a simple catch to complete the dismissal.

The umpire was seen signalling it wide. However, the moment he saw Akram appeal for the dismissal, he overturned his decision and gave it out. Commenting more on the run chase, Sultan XI chased the total with 7 wickets in hand. Abdullah was the top scorer in the chase with 33 runs to his name.

Shoaib Malik bagged two wickets for his side before losing the game. It is interesting to see that the players of the new franchise, Multan Sultans, are bonding big time. The fans would hope for the players to come up with exciting performances this season.
