In the past couple of years, the quality of umpiring in the matches has been on its descendant. Recently, during a Test match played between Australia and Pakistan in Brisbane, the umpires were brought under the scanner for missing as many as 21 no-balls during the match. Meanwhile, a video is going viral on the internet in which an umpire is seen turning down an lbw appeal and coming up with a bizarre decision, leaving the players in shock.

Last year, during an IPL match, the on-field umpire S Ravi missed a no-ball that was bowled by Lasith Malinga in a close encounter between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore. After the game, RCB skipper Virat Kohli couldn’t hold it back and was pretty angry over the mistake of the match official.

There were many incidents happened in the previous season because of which IPL governing council has come up with some major amendments in the rules and also introduced a new policy for the upcoming season.

Umpires are under the scanner of the authorities

They have come onto a decision to take away the front foot no-ball calls away from the on-field umpires. Also, ICC is set to draw a new system according to which T.V. umpire will check the no-balls during the games and the trial is set to begin from the series between West Indies and India that will start from next month. These all steps are taken by the respective authorities to minimise the error during the match because sometimes it becomes the main factor between a win or a defeat.

“Over the next few months, the ICC is going to conduct some trials where the third umpire is going to call no-balls. The first series will be the India-WI T20 and ODI series starting Dec 6,” an ICC spokesperson said as quoted by Hindustan Times.

Bizarre call from the umpire

During the time when umpires are being criticised for decision making, there comes another incident in which the match official has left everyone in shock and surprise.

The incident happened during a match when the batsman tried a reverse sweep shot against the spinner. He missed the ball that directly went and hit into his pads. The bowler along with the fielders did an appeal for lbw. At that time the onfield umpire was in his own world, who stepped out and raised his arm to give that delivery wide. But, in the video, it is clearly visible that the ball had clearly hit the batsman’s pad. The decision from the umpire also left the players in awe and some of them even started laughing.
