USA national team will play T20 games against CPL franchises

Two squads from the Caribbean Premier League will face off the USA men’s team in warm-up games before this year’s CPL. The warm-up will be played on August 5 and 6 in Florida. Of the two games, the first will see St. Kitts & Nevis Patriots and USA while the other will feature Jamaica Tallawahs and USA. Both matches will be hosted at Central Broward Regional Park in Lauderhill.

This idea behind the amalgamation of the two was that the CPL organisers wanted to incorporate the USA players as part of the week’s festivities in Florida. Last year, during the CPL tour of Florida, the USA team played the CPL development team in a friendly T20. Not just that, all CPL squads also included a few USA players in their training camps.

Since several players from USA national team now have contracts with the CPL franchises, they will be unavailable for national duty during the tournament. Timroy Allen, an all-rounder, will be playing his second year with the Jamaica Tallwahs. Akeem Dodson, on the other hand, will be playing his first season with Barbados Tridents. Timil Patel will also be playing his first this year, with St Lucia Stars. Guayana Amazon Warriors will be playing Ali Khan for the second time, while USA skipper Steve Taylor will make his debut for the Warriors this season, after playing for Tridents the last two years.

Six teams and many stars 

There are total six teams in the tournament. St Lucia Stars, Jamaica Tawallahs, Barbados Tridents, Guyana Amazon Warriors, Trinbago Knight Riders and St Kitts and Nevis Patriots. Many noted international stars play in the tournament. Afghanistan’s new sensation Rashid Khan, who played his first IPL season with Sunrisers Hyderabad earlier this year, will be seen playing for St Kitts and Nevis Patriots. Kumar Sangakkara will be seen playing for the Jamaica Tallawahs.
