Andhra and Maharashtra left it till their final game in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2018-19 but eventually managed to seal their berth in the quarter-finals, pipping their nearest rivals Hyderabad and Baroda by close margins. Mumbai, Delhi, Maharashtra and Andhra have qualified for the quarters from the Elite Group A & B.

Andhra had a relatively simple game against Madhya Pradesh, who haven’t played the most attractive brand of cricket. Shoaib Khan’s four-fer helped Andhra bundle out their opponents for 154 runs in the first innings, after which Ricky Bhui scored a fifty and steered his side into the quarters with a seven-wicket win.

Maharashtra played a virtual knock-out game against Baroda and emerged victorious comfortably. Veteran Yusuf Pathan and Krunal Pandya scored the fifties for Baroda to help them notch 206 runs batting first. Naushal Shaikh and Rohit Motwani made a mockery of the run chase and won their side the game by five wickets and 33 balls to spare.

Vidarbha edge out Goa in a nail-biting encounter

The game of the day was played at Alur between Vidarbha and Goa. Batting first, Vidarbha posted 218 runs before getting bowled out in 48.2 overs. The game went all the way down to the final over with just one wicket remaining but Krishna Das’s effort towards the end went in vain as Goa fell one run short of the target.

Karnataka and Punjab should’ve been title contenders, but ended up performing quite poorly this tournament. In their final game, Karnataka posted 296 runs before getting bowled out with 10 balls to spare. Anmolpreet Singh smacked a brilliant hundred for Punjab and Mandeep Singh’s side eventually won the match by six wickets and seven balls remaining.

Delhi finished their group stage campaign with a win against Chhattisgarh. Lakshay Tareja’s fifty helped Delhi put on 245 runs on the board. A brilliant bowling effort from Kulwant Khejroliya didn’t make things easy for Chhattisgarh, who eventually could manage only 201 runs.
