Saurashtra wicketkeeper Sheldon Jackson picked up a spectacular one-handed catch against Andhra in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy.  The batsman who was dismissed courtesy of Jackson’s brilliance was Ashwin Hebber and he was facing Saurashtra bowler Chirag Jani. The medium pacer pitched the ball well outside off stump and Hebbar went chasing after it.

However, instead of caressing it through the covers, the batsman managed to edge it. The ball looked like it would go past Jackson, but the keeper simply stuck his right out hand out and completed a brilliant catch. Unfortunately for Saurashtra, the catch wasn’t enough for a victory. Andhra Pradesh won the match by 6 wickets. Saurashtra scored 214 runs in the first innings, with Arpit Vasavada top-scoring for his side with 55.

Sheldon Jackson himself got to a very slow 38 off 59 deliveries. Although asked to chase just 215, Andhra Pradesh didn’t sail to the target. They lost a few wickets, but more importantly weren’t able to score very freely. Andhra eventually scaled the total with 9 deliveries to spare.

Who is Sheldon Jackson?

32-year old Sheldon Jackson has had considerable success in the domestic circuit. Having played 55 first-class matches, Jackson has amassed 3971 runs, averaging just under 50. He boasts of a highest score of 181*. In 2009 he was signed by the Kolkata Knight Riders after Joydeep Mukherjee, a former Bengal player, spotted his talent. He also had a stint with the Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2013, before coming back to the KKR setup in 2017.

The wicketkeeper-batsman kicked off the 2018-19 season of the Vijay Hazare Trophy in style with a fabulous 107 against Uttar Pradesh in Delhi. He followed up the century with a 62 against Delhi but hasn’t been able to go past the 30s since.

Sheldon Jackson put up the video of his catch on his Twitter with a cheeky caption that read, “just a small reminder. i am a wicketkeeper too”
