Match Details:

The Round 2 match in the Elite Group A of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2019-20 will be played between Mumbai and Jharkhand at the Just Cricket Academy Ground in Bangalore.

The match starts at 9:00 AM local time (IST) (3:30 AM GMT)

Preview:

Vijay Hazare Trophy 2019-20 began with washouts and the top sides in the Group A and Group B. The defending champions Mumbai were part of Group A and their game against Saurashtra got abandoned. They will now be up against Jharkhand who has done well during the Indian domestic cricket in the recent past. Shreyas Iyer, who was part of the Indian T20I squad till this Sunday, will lead the Mumbai team.

Iyer would be looking to play some big knocks to keep himself getting chances of playing in the middle order at the big stage. Sarfaraz Khan’s return to Mumbai is something to look out from their squad alongside some International hopefuls.  Jharkhand, who made it to the semi-finals of the previous Vijay Hazare Trophy, will be led by Ishan Kishan again. They are boosted by the return of Ishank Jaggi who missed the previous edition.

Weather Condition/Report:

The last couple of days have been filled by inconsistent spells of rain in Bangalore. This saw all the matches scheduled to be played on Tuesday in this city got abandoned. The threat of rain remains for the 2nd consecutive day of the tournament.

Pitch Condition/Report:

The last season’s matches at the Just Cricket Academy weren’t high-scoring ones but the low scores were mostly due to the early start. The record of chasing teams suggested how good it is for batting after the first hour.

Average first innings score: 218 (Unreduced Vijay Hazare Trophy matches in 2018/19 season)

Record of chasing teams: Won – 4, Lost – 2

Injury and Availability News:

Yashahsvi Jaiswal is currently part of India Under-23s squad.

Top Picks:

This will be a crucial tournament for Ishan Kishan as his success here could hand him his India cap in the home series against Bangladesh. His opening partner Anand Singh has decent average with the bat and will take wickets with his medium-pace bowling. Varun Aaron has two big Vijay Hazare seasons with the ball and will be crucial again. He took 25 wickets across 13 matches in the two editions played in 2018.

Jay Bista, at 8 credits, can be said steal given the high prices of other players. He didn’t get many chances with Prithvi and Rahane around for Mumbai in the previous season. In the three matches in 2018/19, Bista scored 123 runs with help of fifty. He played good knocks in the Syed Mushtaq Ali. Shams Mulani had 17 wickets to his name in that tournament and can contribute with the bat as well.

Captain and Vice-Captain Selection:

Captain – Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan, Anand Singh, Shivam Dube

Vice-Captain – Jay Bista, Anukul Roy, Varun Aaron, Suryakumar Yadav

For Ishan Kishan, it is all about surviving the first spell of Tushar and Dhawal’s opening spell. Once that is done, he could fest on Mulani, Thakur and Dube who can make it easy for batting for the youngster.

Suggested Playing XI for Head to Head/Small Leagues:

Keeper – Ishan Kishan

Batsmen – Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav, Virat Singh, Jay Bista

All-Rounders – Anand Singh, Shivam Dube, Anukul Roy (VC)

Bowlers – Varun Aaron, Tushar Deshpande, Shams Mulani

Suggested Playing XI for Grand Leagues/Mega Leagues:

Keeper – Ishan Kishan (C), Aditya Tare

Batsmen – Suryakumar Yadav, Ishank Jaggi, Jay Bista

All-Rounders – Shivam Dube (VC), Anand Singh, Anukul Roy

Bowlers – Dhawal Kulkarni, Shahbaz Nadeem, Varun Aaron

Expert Advice:

Mumbai will have the 2nd opener spot open in the absence of big names. The management could promote Aditya Tare or even Siddhesh Lad up the order and letting Sarfaraz Khan coming in at No.6 or 7. Making Sarfaraz an opener might not be ruled out either. Eknath Kerkar is another option but likely to warm the bench as he is yet to make his List A debut.

Probable Winners:

Mumbai might face a tough fight from Jharkhand but their experience could allow them to earn the two points.
