The Vijay Hazare Trophy 2019-20 season continued to get affected due to rain even on Monday. All the matches in Vadodara were washed out as it poured down heavily while a couple of matches in Dehradun too were abandoned without even the toss. Out of the 11 matches scheduled to play on the day, five were ended without a result while the rest of the six matches witnessed some thrilling action.

Here’s the review of the day’s play:

Elite Group A and B

Five rescheduled matches from this group were set to take place today. But only two of them which were played in Alur were completed. The round 4 game between Mumbai and Saurashtra saw the former side return to winning ways after being stunned by Chhatisgarh. Saurashtra posted a total of 245 runs for the loss of nine wickets after 50 overs after losing the toss on the back of Aarpit Vasavada’s half-century.

Shardul Thakur and Shams Mulani were the stars with the ball for Mumbai as they shared six wickets between them equally. With the bat, Shreyas Iyer and Suryakumar Yadav slammed 73 and 85* respectively to take Mumbai home with two overs to spare. Shubham Ranjane also played an attractive knock and despite bowling decently, Saurashtra had to come second in the contest with their batsmen not scoring enough runs.

In the other game, Karnataka faced Hyderabad in the round 1 clash at the KSCA Cricket Ground in Alur. After losing the toss, Hyderabad were led by Ambati Rayudu with the bat who scored an unbeaten 87 runs. But none of the other batsmen apart from Chama Milind could support him. This led to Hyderabad putting up only 198 runs for the loss of nine wickets in 50 overs.

Mohammed Siraj got Hyderabad to a scintillating start in defence of a mediocre score by picking the likes of KL Rahul and Karun Nair in the very first over. But then Devdutt Padikkal and skipper Manish Pandey joined hands to add 85 runs for the third wicket. At 89/2 after 20 overs, it seemed a straight forward victory for Karnataka. But Hyderabad staged a brilliant comeback to castle them out for 177 runs.

Bavanaka Sandeep was at the helm of the collapse as he returned with the figures of 4/35 in nine overs. Abhimanyu Mithun tried his best in the end, but Karantaka fell well short of the target eventually as Hyderabad triumphed in a low-scoring encounter.
