Match Details:
The Round 9 game of the Vijay Hazare trophy 2019-20 between Mumbai and Goa will be hosted by KSCA Cricket Ground II in Alur.
The match starts at 9:00 AM local time (IST) (3:30 AM GMT).
Preview:
Defending champions, Mumbai find themselves in a tricky position with only eight points from four games so far. While the weather has played spoilsport in two of their games, they are still on course for a knockout spot in Vijay Hazare Trophy 2019-20. On Tuesday, they face Goa at the KSCA Cricket Ground II with another win in their sights. Goa themselves have won only one game with Aditya Kaushik starring for them with a superlative hundred earlier in the season.
With a plethora of stars in their side, Mumbai are the overwhelming favourites for this game. In the form that Suryakumar Yadav and Shreyas Iyer are in at the moment, it should be a complete cakewalk. Surya is striking at above 150 in the middle order with his 81* being the cherry on the top.
A well rounded Mumbai bowling unit is expected to come up trumps with Shivam Dube and Shubham Ranjane also filling in the fifth bowler’s quota. Nevertheless, Goa has a lot of experience in their ranks and will bank on Amit Verma and CM Gautam to deliver the goods and give the defending champions a tough fight in Alur.
Weather Condition/Report:
Rain shouldn’t be a problem on Tuesday with clear skies on the forecast. Cloud cover of 84% and humidity of 83% at the start of the game according to AccuWeather, should also play a part in the game with the temperature ranging between 24 and 27 degrees throughout the course of the game.
Pitch Condition/Report:
Alur is generally a high-scoring ground with some help for the pacers and spinners. With overcast conditions on offer, the new ball bowlers will have a major role to play although the batsmen should have the final say with the average first score at the ground being over 250 in the previous season and this season as well.
Average first innings score: 273 (Matches Completed in 2019)
Record of chasing team: Won – 0, Lost – 3

Top Picks:
Jay Bista averages nearly 35 in 14 outings for Mumbai in his List A career. Although he hasn’t done much this year, one can expect a big score from him and his captain, Shreyas Iyer, who scored a fifty against Saurashtra in their previous win. Shams Mulani has picked six wickets so far and is Mumbai’s lone spinner. On a pitch which should suit his skill-set, he should pick a wicket or two in the middle overs.
Captain and Vice-Captain Selection:
Captain – Jay Bista, Shreyas Iyer and Shivam Dube
Vice-Captain – S Kamat, Suryakumar Yadav and Shams Mulani
Given the nature of the pitch, Shreyas Iyershould score some big runs with the Mumbaikar already in fine touch this season.
Suggested Playing XI for Head to Head/Small Leagues:
Keeper – CM Gautam
Batsmen –Shreyas Iyer (C), JayBista, Suryakumar Yadav, S Kamat
All-Rounders – Shivam Dube (VC), Heramb Parab
Bowlers – Lakshay Garg, Dhawal Kulkarni, Shardul Thakur and Darshan Misal
Suggested Playing XI for Grand Leagues/Mega Leagues:
Keeper – CM Gautam, Aditya Tare
Batsmen – Jay Bista (VC), Shreyas Iyer (C), S Kamat
All-Rounders –Amit Verma, Shivam Dube
Bowlers – Dhawal Kulkarni, Shams Mulani, Darshan Misal and Tushar Deshpande
Expert Advice:
The pitch at the KSCA Cricket Ground II is a good batting track. With a lot of swing and quality swing bowlers also available upfront, middle-order batsmen would be a safer option.
With the dearth in quality clearly evident between the two sides, if Goa were to bat first, picking three or possibly four Mumbai bowlers would also be a good punt.
Probable Winners:
Mumbai are the clear favourites for this game and should inflict a huge defeat upon Goa on Tuesday.
