The Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) has been amongst the best domestic cricket associations given the success of the Delhi’s Vijay Hazare Trophy team. The team ended up runners-up under the leadership of Rishabh Pant in 2017-18 and won the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy the same year as well. They finished runners-up in the 2018-19 Vijay Hazare Trophy.

After the retirement of Gautam Gambhir, the leadership of the team has changed hands several times, currently residing with Nitish Rana, who is the FC captain and Ishant Sharma, who is the limited-overs captain of Delhi side. With the upcoming domestic season 2019-20 approaching, the 2012-13 Vijay Hazare champions have unveiled a star-studded list of 50 probable players, which will make their opponents sit up and take notice.

The DDCA announced the list of probables for the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy and it sees some heavyweight names like Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, Shikhar Dhawan, and Ishant Sharma being included. Apart from these, regulars like Pawan Negi, Navdeep Saini, Himmat Singh, Nitish Rana, Dhruv Shorey, Pradeep Sangwan, and many others feature.

Virat Kohli had a decent ICC World Cup 2019, while Rishabh Pant has been chosen by the selectors as the heir apparent to MS Dhoni in the limited-overs as well. Shikhar Dhawan made his comeback to ODIs after suffering a broken thumb during the ICC World Cup, while Ishant Sharma has done amazingly well for India in the ongoing Test series against West Indies. Newbie Navdeep Saini made an impressive debut in the T20Is, picking three wickets and the Man of the Match award in his first match.

Talking about the Vijay Hazare Trophy, it was constituted in 2002-03 and is named after famed India player Vijay Hazare. Tamil Nadu holds the record for winning the title the most number of times – 5, while current champions are Mumbai, in their third reign as champions. Delhi has won the trophy three times and ended up runners up twice.

It remains to be seen if the Delhi side can go all the way and win the championship this time with such a star-studded lineup of players.
