The quadrangular One-Day series involving India A, India B, Australia A and South Africa A is all set to commence on August 17. All the matches will be played at Mulapadu twin grounds near Vijayawada. Meanwhile, the promising all-rounder Vijay Shankar has been ruled out of the tournament due to the hamstring injury. He was part of the India B side which will be led by Manish Pandey.

This comes as a huge blow for the youngster who is on the selectors’ radar as the pace bowling all-rounder. He also made his international debut during the Nidahas Trophy in Sri Lanka earlier this year and was at the centre stage in the final of the tri-series. He was in the middle when the going got tough against Bangladesh and Team India was on the verge of losing the final.

No replacement named

The BCCI confirmed the news of Vijay Shankar getting injured in their latest press release. He has suffered a left hamstring injury and is currently undergoing rehab at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. Interestingly, the selectors have decided not to name the replacement for him and their squad has now been trimmed to 14.

The team looks formidable though with the presence of the likes of Mayank Agarwal, Ishan Kishan, Deepak Hooda and Siddarth Kaul. The U19 star Shubman Gill is also the part of the squad who will be keen to prove his worth in the series. The bowling attack, apart from Kaul, consists of Prasidh Krishna, Kulwant Khejroliya and Navdeep Saini as well with  Shreyas Gopal, Jayant Yadav and Dharmendrasinh Jadeja taking over the spin-bowling duties.

The team will face South Africa A in their first match of the series who are currently playing the second unofficial four-day game against India A at KSCA Cricket Ground in Alur.

Updated India B squad: Manish Pandey(c), Mayank Agarwal, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Shubman Gill, Deepak Hooda, Ricky Bhui, Ishan Kishan, Shreyas Gopal, Jayant Yadav, Dharmendrasinh Jadeja, Siddarth Kaul, Prasidh Krishna, Kulwant Khejroliya, Navdeep Saini
