Jonty Rhodes has arguably been one of the greatest outfielders to have played the game. The ball hardly found its way through the positions Rhodes patrolled over the years. He also has taken some spectacular catches and also has inflicted some run-outs during his playing days. Quite rightly, he sets a benchmark for budding cricketers who wish to master the art of fielding.
Rhodes had several memorable moments in the outfield. However, his run-out to dismiss Inzamam-ul-Haq during the 1992 World Cup went down as one of the most celebrated pieces of work in the cricket field. He came running in from a distance and demolished the stumps to dismiss the legendary Pakistani batsman.
26 years later, an Indian cricketer emulated the same during a Syed Mushtaq Ali at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The moment unveiled during a Group A game between Karnataka and Punjab. Chasing 159 to register a victory, Punjab were in a comfortable position to clinch the game. Gurkeerat Singh came it at the fall of Mandeep Singh’s wicket.
However, he perished to a herculean effort by Vinay Kumar who inflicted the run-out. The Karnataka cricketer ran in and dismantled the stumps which were reminiscent of the masterclass by Jonty Rhodes. After the game’s end, Vinay Kumar took to Twitter and dropped a message for the former South African cricketer.
Here’s the Tweet
Hi coach @JontyRhodes8 after watching your 1992 World Cup runout video many times, I was waiting for such opportunity. So, today I finally got it. How’s that coach ? ? pic.twitter.com/HOaUqNqprH

The cliffhanger
After Gurkeerat’s dismissal, Punjab’s innings stuttered alarmingly and they lost wickets in quick succession. However, they somehow managed to draw level with Karnataka and the game went into a one-over eliminator. However, Punjab managed to hold their nerves and emerged as edged out Karnataka in the super-over.
Karnataka’s next assignment will be against Andhra Pradesh on the 23rd of January at the same venue. On the other hand, Punjab will play Mumbai in another Super League Group A game on the 22nd of January in Kolkata.
