Vinod Kambli criticises Indian batsmen's defensive approach at Lord's

The second Test between England and India at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground in London recently came to a close with England winning the match by an innings and 159 and subsequently, taking an important 2-0 lead in the five-match series. Constant spells of shower threatened to play spoilsport to the match, however, the contest took close of three days to produce a result.

After the first day’s play was washed out, only 35.2 overs were bowled in the second day. However, those many overs turned out to be enough for the English pace attack to bowl out India for 107 runs. The Indian bowlers came out with a strong response and picked up five English wickets. Nevertheless, Chris Woakes and Jonny Bairstow’s stand helped the Brits clinch back the ascendancy.

Kambli slams the Indian batsmen

The duo put 189 runs on the board and virtually batted India out of the contest. With a trail of 289 runs, the Indian batsmen were in for a herculean task. Unfortunately, they couldn’t deliver and were shot out for 130 runs at the Home of Cricket. Ravichandran Ashwin scored 62 runs in the match and was India’s highest run scorer. The other batsmen flattered to deceive.

Virat Kohli, who tormented the English attack at Edgbaston in Birmingham, couldn’t perform as well. much to the agony of the visiting team. In the meantime, Sourav Ganguly, the former Indian cricketer, mentioned that the Indian batsmen didn’t play their natural game and went into their shell. Vinod Kambli, another former player, echoed Ganguly’s words and criticised the Indian batsmen.

He took to Twitter and wrote, “Absolutely agree with @SGanguly99! Our entire approach in this Test was defensive. More than anything, we allowed the English bowlers to come out on top by not playing our natural stroke playing game. The #TeamIndia think tank has a lot to ponder over in the coming days. #ENGvIND”
