Ever since Arjun Tendulkar has decided to make it big in Cricket, all the eyes are on him whenever he takes the field. He is currently playing in the U19 One-Day domestic tournament, Vinoo Mankad Trophy, for Mumbai and has impressed many with his bowling. He was in the news earlier this month after registering the magical figures of 5/30 against Gujarat and this time has returned with 3/14 against Assam.
Assam were batting first in the game and Arjun dented them early in the innings by removing the opener Danish Ahmed for just one run. He then came back for his second spell and scalped a couple more of the tail-enders Hrishikesh Borah and Rituraj Biswas. The left-arm seamer bowled seven miserly overs to go for only 14 runs and returned with three wickets.
The other bowlers Divyaansh (2/6), Atharva Poojari (1/11) and Aakash Vikram Sharma (1/20) also bowled well to keep the opposition on their toes. Assam batsmen couldn’t sustain the pressure and crumbled after posting only 99 runs on the board.
Mumbai canter to victory
Arjun Tendulkar’s fiery spell had ensured that the Mumbai weren’t chasing a big total. Their openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Suved Parkar looked in no hurry while gunning the 100-run target. Both of them looked comfortable at the crease and helped the team win by 10 wickets with more than 28 overs to spare. While Yashasvi continued to bat well after the Asia Cup scoring 56 off 65 deliveries, his partner remained unbeaten on 41 off 66 balls.
As far as Arjun Tendulkar is concerned, this is his last year at the U19 level. He will turn 20 next year and his impressive show will certainly keep him in good stead. The way he is hogging the limelight, one cannot deny his inclusion in the senior Mumbai team soon. It will be interesting to see how Arjun performs at the higher level and then his career will start taking shape.
