Former Indian batter Aakash Chopra feels that KL Rahul will be a huge miss in the Test against England if he fails to get fit. Rahul had to miss out on the T20I series against South Africa at home after picking up a groin injury ahead of the start of the series and he is doubtful for the Edgbaston Test.

Chopra noted Rahul’s performance in the England Test tour last year and mentioned how the pair of Rohit and Rahul had worked out really well. Notably, Rahul had a big part to play at the top of the order alongside Rohit Sharma in the four Tests last year in England as he accumulated 315 runs at an average of 39.37. Meanwhile, Rohit and Virat Kohli struggled in IPL 2022 and were rested for the ongoing T20I series against South Africa.

I see problems from multiple angles: Aakash Chopra

He highlighted the indifferent form of Kohli and Rohit in IPL 2022 and felt that Rahul’s absence might be a major problem for India. The only Test between India and England will be a continuation of last year’s five-match Test series where the final Test had to be postponed due to a Covid-19 outbreak in the Indian team.

“He (Rahul) is doubtful at the moment. He played extremely well last time, there is no doubt about that. The Rohit and Rahul pair had worked amazingly well but now I see problems from multiple angles. Firstly, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are going slightly undercooked,” Aakash Chopra told on his Youtube Channel.

“Both had a 50-50 IPL and have missed one series in between. The first match of the tour is a Test match. At times, you don’t get acclimatized even till the fourth Test match and here you have only one Test match. So it was already a problem and if after that KL Rahul is not present, it is a bigger problem,” he added.
