Anil Kumble resigned from the post of head coach of Indian team yesterday. Kumble said that the BCCI informed him on Monday that Virat Kohli had reservations. The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) had backed him for the job. He stated that his partnership with Kohli was untenable so it will be best for the team if he moves on. Reports emerging today have stated that both of them had stopped communicating for 6 months now.

Anil Kumble was given an extension on a condition

BCCI knew that relations between coach and captain were not good, but they even they were surprised by this news. CAC consists of prominent names – Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, and VVS Laxman, their job is to advise BCCI on such issues. Another news has emerged that Kumble was to be given an extension on a condition that he solves his differences with Kohli.

“There had been reports that the CAC had okayed Kumble’s extension. They had okayed his extension but with a rider. They had said that Kumble should be retained provided all pending issues are resolved,” a senior BCCI official, who was present in London, told PTI.

According to reports, many meetings were held between these two and in the last meeting, the coach and captain were made to sit together and still there was no communication. From this meeting, it became clear that things will never work out between these two.

“The two had stopped talking to each other since December when the England Test series got over. There were problems but it was like shocking that the two didn’t have any proper communication for the past six months. On Sunday evening after the final, they were made to sit at the table and they both agreed that it’s not working out,” the BCCI official further said

Reason for the breakdown in relations

The official said that Kohli had some reservations about the working of Kumble. When the former captain was asked about these issues he brushed them aside saying that those were non-issues. The official, further said that Kohli felt Kumble was interfering with his job and he didn’t like this at all.

“Let’s put it that Virat felt that Anil is entering an area which was his domain. For Anil, who has been a decorated player and an India captain, he has his own beliefs and ideas but the final call always stays with the captain,” the official said.
