The Royal Challengers Bangalore were ravaged by injuries of its star players just before the start of the tenth edition of the Indian Premier League. First Virat Kohli, then Ab de Villiers, and then KL Rahul, there seemed no end to the miseries for the 2016 runners-up. However, with AB de Villiers’ return in the season’s third game, a grand return which was, fans finally had something to cheer about.

But RCB has become synonymous with Virat Kohli in the past few years, and fans kept asking when would the RCB captain make his return. But the mystery has finally been unravelled, as Kohli himself took to Instagram to announce his return date.

The RCB captain will take to the field against Mumbai Indians at the M Chinnaswamy stadium in Bangalore on Friday, April 14. Kohli himself announced this and along with the video he also wrote, “can’t wait to get back onto the field.”

The Indian skipper had sustained a shoulder injury in the third Test against Australia in Ranchi, and since then has been out of all cricketing action.

With AB de Villiers looking in the form of his life, middle order specialist Kedar Jadhav firing on all cylinders, and Virat’s comeback to the team, RCB becomes one of the most formidable sides in the 8-team annual tourney.

By making him in charge of the RCB for a few games in the 2012 season, the team groomed him as their next leader, which Kohli eventually became in the 6th edition. Retained by the franchise in Auction 2014, the 27-year-old continues to lead the side.

Kohli was at his IPL-career best in the 2016 season, scoring 973 runs from 16 matches. Overall, he has played 139 IPL games and has scored 411 runs at a strike rate of 130.43.

Can't wait to get back onto the field. Almost there now ?✌️?. 14th April ⏳
