Virat Kohli to cut the 500th Test cake; Azharuddin to be honored by BCCI

Virat Kohli, the skipper of the Indian Test team will be the center of all attention in the 500th Test match Team India is set to play against New Zealand at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur.

Rajiv Shukla, the president of the UPCA has also gone on to make several arrangements for the upcoming match. Kohli will cut a specially customized cake as a part of the celebration for the upcoming historic ‘500th Test’.

The New Zealand team will arrive on the 19th September for the match starting on 22nd, whereas the Indian players arrived in batches on Saturday (17th September). Wriddhiman Saha, Cheteshwar Pujara, and Ravindra Jadeja were the first ones to reach and Kohli along with Shikhar Dhawan, Murali Vijay, Ajinkya Rahane, Umesh Yadav arrived in the evening.

BCCI has invited several Indian cricket legends to attend and witness the historic Test match in the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Dilip Vengsarkar, Krishnamachari Srikkanth and Mohammad Azharuddin.

The call for Azharuddin came in as a surprise as the board would in the past avoid inviting him for social functions due to his involvement in the 2000 match-fixing scandal. “He is also a former India captain,” Shukla said, adding that there is nothing wrong in that.

“Sachin, Vengsarkar, Srikkanth, and Azhar have confirmed that they would come for felicitation. Ajit Wadekar has informed the board that he is not keeping well and won’t be able to attend,” UPCA secretary Shukla was quoted by PTI saying.

A specially minted silver coin will be used for the toss in the 500th Test match. The series constitutes of 3 Test matches and 5 One Day Internationals.
