Dussehra celebrations turned tragic in Amritsar on Friday when the train ran over hundreds of people who were standing on a track. They were enjoying the moment of Ravana’s effigy going up in flames but didn’t realise that the trains were approaching as the firecrackers were bursting at the scene. The tragedy took place at Joda Fatak area where a large crowd was assembled to celebrate the festival. Meanwhile, Virat Kohli has expressed his grief over the unfortunate incident and hoped that the families recover from their losses soon.

According to the reports, close to 60 people have lost their lives so far in the tragic incident and the count is likely to increase. Also the same number of injured badly and are being treated in the nearby hospitals with all the Government officials keeping an eye on the rescue operations.

Kohli, who is currently in Guwahati, was left heartbroken after he got to know about the incident and took to Twitter to express his support to the affected families. “My prayers are with the families of those affected by the terrible train accident in Amritsar yesterday,” he wrote in his tweet.

Kohli special on the cards?

Virat Kohli is making a comeback to the ODI side after being rested for the Asia Cup. In his absence, Rohit Sharma-led side emerged the Asian Champions in the UAE. With Kohli returning at the helm, he will also bat at number three and Ambati Rayudu will move down to number four. The Indian captain is in great form across all the formats and the fans will be hoping for a special knock from him.

The Barasapara Cricket Stadium is hosting its first ODI and it will be interesting to see how the pitch behaves on the day. Last time India played at the venue, they lost to Australia in a T20I and the angry crowd had pelted stones of the visiting team’s bus.
