Virat Kohli helps former India Women cricketer's mother in COVID-19 treatment with Rs 6.77 lakh

The second wave of COVID-19 has made things extremely tough in India in terms of medical infrastructure. Moreover, the treatment is not affordable for many people and are struggling financially. Same was the case with the former India Woman cricketer K.S. Sravanthi Naidu’s mother, SK Suman who has contracted the virus and is undergoing treatment for the virus.

However, the Indian captain Virat Kohli has come forward to assist her financially and has given Rs 6.77 lakh. Sravanthi had appealed to the BCCI, Hyderabad Cricket Association and other associations as well to help her in this regard. Even India’s fielding coach R Sridhar had posted in his Instagram story about her mother being critical appealing his followers to help them.

N Vidya Yadav, former BCCI South Zone convenor (women’s cricket) and sister of former BCCI president N. Shivlal Yadav, had tagged Virat Kohli in a tweet seeking help for Sravanthi who had already spent Rs 16 lakh for the treatment of her parents who tested positive for COVID-19. Kohli’s gesture came in response to Vidya’s tweet and the latter is amazed with the same. She also thanked R Sridhar for his efforts in taking this issue with the Indian skipper.

“Honestly, I was amazed at his spontaneous gesture. Such a great gesture from such a great cricketer. I am also grateful to the Indian fielding coach R. Sridhar who also took up the issue with Kohli,” Vidya said while speaking to Sportstar. Vidya has been coordinating with her brother Shivlal to collect the funds to help the former cricketer in these needy times even as HCA Apex Council has already approved Rs 5 lakh in the same regards.

Virat Kohli and Anushka also started a fundraiser

Virat Kohli, ever since the IPL has been suspended, has made sure that he helps the needy people during these tough times along with his wife Anushka Sharma. The couple had started a fundraiser only a few days ago and had themselves donated a whopping amount of Rs 2 crore. The fundraiser, overall, collected around Rs 11 crore and all the money went for the welfare of COVID-19 patients who are in need of oxygen and other things.
