Captain of the Indian Cricket Team Virat Kohli hosted a charity ball in London ahead of the team’s Champions Trophy clash against Sri Lanka. The event was organised to raise funds for Justice and Care, an organisation which aims at providing help for those victimised by human trafficking.

Former India cricketer and legend of the game Sachin Tendulkar was the centre of attraction during the event. He shared the stage with Virat. The event was hosted by renowned cricket presenter Alan Wilkins. Apart from Kohli, his current teammates were also present at the event. India openers Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan came along with their families. Yuvraj Singh also marked his presence.

Dhawan attended the event with wife Ayesha Mukherjee and son Zoravar, while Rohit brought his wife Ritika Sajdeh along. In the lead up to the event, India routed arch-rivals Pakistan to record a thumping 124-run victory in their opening Champions Trophy game. India are the defending Champions and are among the favourites to clinch the coveted piece of silverware for a second consecutive year.

Virat himself had a good outing at Edgbaston, as he scored 81 runs en route India’s 319 in the first innings. Their top order fired in unison to put up a daunting total on the board, with each of the top 4 batsmen getting to fifties.

Virat Kohli Foundation and Justice and Care join hands

Justice and Care as a charity is aimed at fighting human trafficking. It operates with the strong belief that “slavery can be ended”. The organisation recently joined hands with the Virat Kohli Foundation to provide essential care to survivors of modern slavery. The objective of the charity event in London was to provide a safe place for victims to stay and also provide rehabilitation, counselling, vital medical care, schooling and vocational training for those rescued in India.

On the organisation’s website, Kohli was quoted as saying, “I am proud to support the work of Justice and Care. Its commitment to bring an end to slavery is vital and inspirational and so close to my heart.”
