Virat Kohli received support from former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly after the latter expressed his dissatisfaction at the packed schedule ahead of the Sri Lankan series. Kohli had said that India would need time to prepare before they head to South Africa. India are playing the ongoing Test series against Sri Lanka and they will be traveling to Africa towards the end of December.

Ganguly, a member of the Cricket Advisory Committee, agreed to Kohli’s concern and said that the current skipper is correct. India has been playing non-stop cricket for a long time now and the rotation policy has been put in place to keep the players fit.

“As usual cramped for time, which I think we needed to assess in future as well because we very easily assess the team when we go abroad but we don’t look at how many days we have got to prepare before we go to a particular place to play,” Kohli had said.

Kohli lashes out at the BCCI

“And everyone starts judging players when results come after Test matches. But it should be a fair game, where we get to prepare the way we want to and then we are entitled to be criticised. So we thought this (getting seam-friendly wickets at the ongoing series) is an ample opportunity for us to challenge ourselves, put us in a situation (which they expect to encounter in South Africa),” he added.

Ganguly backs Kohli

Ganguly backed Kohli to do well and also said that he needs to stay fit to be able to play longer for India. Regarding the packed schedule, Ganguly said “He was talking about scheduling of cricket which is so correct. You got to give teams time to prepare when they go to South Africa.”

He also added that Kohli plays a lot of cricket and there is every possibility of him getting to 50 ODI hundreds but the challenge will be in Tests. “He plays a lot of cricket. I personally feel he will get there. To 50 international hundreds with the amount of ODIs that are played, the challenge will be in Test matches to get that far. It’s a terrific feeling to have seen Sachin and now you are seeing this boy,” Ganguly said.
