After a glittering opening ceremony, Tokyo Olympics got underway on July 24. And on the first day itself, the Indian athletes have managed to shine. While the day started with the Men’s Hockey team defeating New Zealand by 3-2 in their first game, it only got better when the weightlifter Mirabai Chanu won the Silver medal for the country in the Women’s 49 kg category.

No wonder the whole country was thrilled to see her win the medal and open India’s count on the first day of the Olympics itself. The whole cricketing fraternity was busy lauding her for her efforts and even the India skipper Virat Kohli took time out and praise Mirabai for making India proud.

Kohli is currently in England gearing up for the upcoming five-match Test series against the home team starting from August 4. He seems to be keeping a keen eye on the happening in the Tokyo Olympics and was quick to spot Mirabai win the medal. Virat Kohli took to his Instagram story to post a picture of Chanu and laud with the emojis.

Virat Kohli missed India’s warm-up game

Virat Kohli, meanwhile, missed India’s three-day warm-up game against the County Select XI due to a sore back. However, he was soon seen practicing in full tilt on the second day in the nets very much determined to do well in the much awaited Test series against England.

He has been pretty much active on social media as well these days. Apart from lauding Mirabai Chanu for her medal winning efforts, he had also urged everyone to support the Indian athletes at the Tokyo Olympics earlier. Moreover, Kohli had praised the Indian team in Sri Lanka after regsitering a memorable three-wicket win in the second ODI to seal the series.

Deepak Chahar was the hero for the team as his match-winning unbeaten 69 had given India an unlikely win in the 276-run chase despite struggling at 193/7 at one stage. The Indian captain had lauded Chahar for his knock and also praised Suryakumar Yadav for the way he batted under pressure.
