After completing the wonderful home season, the Indian skipper Virat Kohli poured heaps of praises on Cheteshwar Pujara. India’s number 3 batsman scored a massive 1316 runs in 13 matches and became the highest scorer in a season. Especially in the series against Australia, he was the building block on which India recovered from the loss in the first Test and won the series emphatically by 2-1.

Kohli took to social media to show his appreciation to Pujara. He posted a photo on Instagram in which he and Pujara can be seen chilling on a cliff. He mentioned that even though everyone played a part in the triumphs, the man from Saurashtra was the chief contributor.

His post read, “Everyone has contributed this season but i am particularly happy and delighted to see the grit and determination of this guy. What a champion. Least mentioned but most effective. Well done puji (Cheteshwar Pujara) for an outstanding season brother. Wish you many more years of stupendous performances for the team. Keep going,”

Pujara had a wonderful reply in store and praised his captain for his leadership skills and his amazing performances during the whole season of Test cricket.

“Thanks a lot Kohli it was indeed a wonderful year for Team India. Very well done on your brilliant leadership and performance throughout the season. Lets continue giving our best to the nation for years to come,” he replied.

Even though Kohli failed to make big runs against Australia, yet his stats in the season are staggering. He compiled 1252 runs in 12 matches. A shoulder injury forced him to sit out of the last Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Pujara overtook him as far as the total number of runs are concerned and finished as India’s most prolific run scorer.

The most pleasing thing for Kohli and India would be the aggression that the team showed in the last Test Dharamsala in the absence of the skipper. Ajinkya Rahane had to lead the side and his tactics were instrumental in handing India the seventh straight Test series win as a result of which India strengthened their grip on top of the rankings in Tests.
