The atmosphere at Bangalore is heating up with every ball as India and Australia continue their battle for the second Test. The Indians are losing their nerves as the pressure piling upon them as the Aussies inch closer to India’s first innings total of 189. We saw an example of such a situation when Matt Renshaw found himself surrounded by Indian players as he came in between Ravichandran Ashwin as the later tried to field the ball.
The objection caused by the young Australian batsman allowed Steve Smith to open his account with a quick single. A frustrated Ashwin along with captain Virat Kohli took no time in surrounding up the 20-year-old Renshaw and threw words at him.
The 21st over saw Warner fall victim to Ashwin after which Smith got off the mark with a single. What got Virat Kohli and his leading spinner angry was the way in which Smith scored his first run. Ravi Ashwin had to make some effort and push Matt Renshaw out of his way to get hold of the ball as Smith played the ball back towards the bowler. However, it was failed attempt allowing the Australian talisman succeed in taking a run.
This incident left the Indians fuming and they took the matter to Renshaw. The umpire did his job and settled things down. The Bangalore crowd also showed their support towards the home team as they did their part of roaring and involved themselves into the action.
Steve Smith had already sent a message earlier to the Indians that his team would not back down from sledging and other activities if they face the same from the Indians in the four-match series. Vice captain and hard-hitting opener David Warner has also pointed out mental toughness as the formula to succeed against the Indians, but this time it’s the Indians who are playing mind games with the visitors to break them down.
