Virat Kohli most loved among the 120 million Instagram engagements in IPL10

According to recent analytics data that has been released, as many as 120 million people were engaged in Instagram during the tenth edition of the IPL. There have been as many as 500 million interactions according to cumulative reports. Virat Kohli came out to be the most talked about player in the tournament.

The tenth edition of the IPL concluded last Sunday with Mumbai Indians clinching the trophy for the third time in five seasons, under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma. They defeated the Rising Pune Supergiant by just 1 run in the last ball thriller at Hyderabad to conclude the 2-month long tournament.

Most followed and liked cricketer

It was Virat Kohli stole the show during the last two months – he was the most talked about player in the tournament as he gathered most likes and followers on Instagram. The Royal Challengers Bangalore captain might have had a dismal tournament, with both bat and team’s point of view, but it did not affect his popularity with the masses. Kohli was followed by former Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Mr. 360 AB de Villiers.

Apart from these stalwarts, IPL 2017 champions Mumbai Indians was the most talked about the team during the season and were closely followed by Rising Pune Supergiant. The ‘Love’ emoticon was the most used one during the 6-week long season.

As many as 165 players from the tournament were engaged in social media, connecting with their fans and providing riveting content on Instagram to connect with fans. Virat Kohli’s recovery from his shoulder injury which he picked up during the 3rd Test at Ranchi against Australia, along with Chris Gayle’s memorable welcome at Rajkot were the two highlight of the tournament for people engaging on Instagram.

The much-celebrated announcement of Delhi Daredevils captain and former Indian pace bowler Zaheer Khan and Chak De India star Sagarika Ghatge was also announced on Instagram.
