Hashim Amla has always chased Virat Kohli as the Indian batting stalwart has been cracking through a lot of ODI records the South African has bettered most of them soon after. Kohli, who took fewest innings to score “nth” ODI century from the 9th ODI century of his career, has been overhauled by Amla well up to 25 ODI hundreds pushing Kohli to the 2nd best position. However, Quinton de Kock and Shikhar Dhawan ensured Kohli slid down to third (11th and 12th century) and even fourth (9th and 10th century) in the lists of fewest innings taken for “nth” ODI hundred.

Amla didn’t spare Kohli’s records even in the fastest to “n” thousand ODI runs as the South African opener went past the Indian skipper to become fastest to 5000, 6000 and 7000 ODI runs. Amla was the fastest to 2000, 3000 and 4000 ODI runs as well but Kohli didn’t hold any of those records. While Amla had already shattered a plenty of ODI records, Kohli still leads him in others.

List of ODI records that are on Virat Kohli’s name but in a touching distance for Hashim Amla to break:

1. Fastest to 8000 ODI runs:

Virat Kohli became the fastest to score 8000 ODI runs during the Champions Trophy 2017; he took just 175 innings to get to the milestone. Amla currently has 7186 runs in 153 ODI innings and still needs to score 834 runs in 21 innings to break Kohli’s record i.e 39.71 runs per every innings.

2. Fewest innings to score 26th ODI century:

Kohli, with his century against New Zealand at Mohali last year, joined the 4 players who have accomplished 26 and more ODI hundreds. He scored it in his 166th inning and became the quickest to score 26 ODI hundreds. Amla currently has 25 ODI tons having played 153 innings and has to score one more century in his next 12 innings to overhaul Kohli.

3. Fewest innings for 27th ODI century:

By scoring a century against England in January at Pune, Kohli became the fastest batter to score the 27th ODI century of his career; he took 169th ODI innings to get there. Amla will have to score 2 more ODI hundreds in the next 14 innings to become the fastest player ever to ODI century No. 27.

4. Fewest innings for 28th ODI century:

Kohli’s most recent century which he scored in the 5th ODI against Windies was his 28th ODI hundred, he scored it in his 181st innings and became the fastest player to hit century No. 28 in the format. Amla will be eying this record as he needs to score 3 more hundreds in the next 27 ODI innings.
