India captain Virat Kohli is as popular a character on social media as on the field. He is currently on a roll both as a captain and batsman even though the Men in Blue are under some sort of pressure at the moment to win the ongoing T20I series against the West Indies. However, amid the concerns of beating the resurgent Caribbeans, one news would certainly make Kohli elated.

On July 7, when India were busy pursuing the crown at the ICC World Cup in England, MS Dhoni turned 38. And Kohli came up with a wish on Twitter displaying his heartfelt respect for his predecessor who has given India two world titles

“Happy birthday mahi bhai @msdhoni. Very few people understand the meaning of trust and respect and I’m glad to have had the friendship I have with you for so many years. You’ve been a big brother to all of us and as I said before, you will always be my captain,” Virat Kohli wrote in his tweet.

He had also posted a picture of himself and Dhoni sporting the blue and big smiles. The tweet has proved to be the most retweeted tweet in the arena of sports in 2019, Twitter India revealed on Tuesday.

India captain’s tweet got massive retweets, likes

The Indian captain’s tweet was retweeted over 45k times and liked close to 414k times. India crashed out of the World Cup soon after that day as they went down fighting against New Zealand in the semi-final with Dhoni’s fifty keeping them in the hunt till the final stages.

The premier tournament has remained MS Dhoni’s latest engagement for India so far as he has skipped successive series thereafter. Earlier this month, MS Dhoni said at an event in Ranchi that he will not talk much about his much-awaited comeback in January and asked all to wait till the new year kicks off.

Virat Kohli, who is in the middle of a classy touch with the bat, had a disappointing outing in the second T20I against the West Indies as poor fielding by the hosts saw the visitors equalling the series 1-1 by winning by 8 wickets in Thiruvananthapuram. It was the captain himself who guided India to a remarkable win in the first match in Hyderabad slamming an unbeaten 94 in 50 balls. The series decider will be played in Mumbai on Wednesday.
