The Indian skipper Virat Kohli continued his dream run with the bat in 2017 and smashed a double-century in the ongoing Test match against Sri Lanka in Nagpur. The VCA Stadium has been a happy hunting ground for the Indians and it remained the same over the weekend as Murali Vijay, Cheteshwar Pujara and the skipper himself enjoyed their stay at the crease. However, Sachin Tendulkar and Kohli are involved in an amazing coincidence as the Indian scorecard reads similar to what 17 years ago read.

In the ongoing second Test, Virat Kohli, the number 4 in the batting line-up notched up a double-century and the opener Murali Vijay scored a century. Also, the number and the new wall of Indian cricket Pujara spent a whopping 500 minutes on the crease for his 143-run knock. The double-century from Kohli was also the 50th for India in the illustrious history of their Test cricket. Team India batted on November 25 and November 26 during the Test match. The current Test match is the second of the series.

What is the coincidence?

Now let us rewind our minds way back to 2000 when the Test match between India and Zimbabwe was played at the same venue. Sachin Tendulkar, the then number 4 of the famous batting line-up, smashed a double-hundred in that game to go with a century from the opener Shiv Sunder Das. Also, the original wall of the Team India Rahul Dravid had scored a hundred. The double-century from the master blaster was 200th double century in the history of Test cricket. Then India had also batted on the same days like it has happened in the ongoing Test match. The game was also the second Test of the series.

Amazingly, all the things have happened similarly after 17 years on the same days with two of the India’s best batsmen of the respective generation ruling the oppositions with their flawless batting. Their number 3 batsmen being the wall of the respective teams. All these things point towards one fact that this Indian team will surely be one of the best as the one in 2000 also went on to become the best team India ever had in whites.

However, Zimbabwe had staged an impressive comeback in the second innings and drew that game. India would hope they would be able to fold the second innings of Sri Lanka and win the match.
