Virat Kohli's pitch inspection in Guwahati leads to hilarious memes over Twitter

The new year did not start on a good note for Virat Kohli & Co. as the first T20I between India and Sri Lanka in Guwahati was abandoned without a ball being bowled on Sunday. Both the teams will now move to Indore for the penultimate game of the three-match series in Indore on Tuesday (January 7) while the final game will take place in Pune on January 10.

The lack of preparation from the Assam Cricket Association was one of the reasons why the game could not go ahead. The evening started on a promising note as the toss took place in time. Virat Kohli won the toss and understandably invited the visitors to bat first on a slow track at the Barsapara Stadium. However, just 15 minutes before the start of the match, the rain knocked at the door.

The rain lasted for less than an hour and thus everyone was hoping to see the teams take on each other. But to everyone’s utter surprise, the game was called off after the ground staff could not dry the pitch. While the rest of the ground was dry and ready for the game, the pitch had wet patches. The ground staff had covered the pitch in time but the wet patches were still evident on the wicket.

And while the ground staff resorted to several measures like using hairdryer and steam iron, they just could not get the pitch ready for the game to commence. Finally, around 10 pm, the game was officially called off by the umpires after the officials did a number of inspections of the field.

With no action being possible in Guwahati, fans used the opportunity to poke some fun at none other than Virat Kohli. As soon as the fans came across Kohli’s pose for checking the pitch, they showed their hilarious photoshop skills. Kohli was seen down on his knees while monitoring the pitch conditions.
