Former Indian cricketers Sourav Ganguly and Virender Sehwag are set to feature on Sony’s popular quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati, hosted by legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan. In a recent promo, the trio can be seen having some good laughs, while Sehwag, being at his notorious best, was seen pulling his former teammate’s leg.

On being asked by Bachchan about his habit to sing while batting, Sehwag responds with a famous song “Chala Jaata Hoon” as he gestures smacking the ball out of the park. He then asks what would be an ideal song for a situation when a fielder drops a catch, to which Sehwag responds with another song, while poking fun at Ganguly regarding his famed rift with former Indian coach Greg Chappell.

“Apni toh jaise taise kat jayegi (We will manage somehow),” sang Sehwag, before pointing at Sourav and continuing, “Aapka kya hoga janaab-e-ali” (But what will you do, sir)?”, leaving both Ganguly and Bachchan in splits. Notably, Chappell and Ganguly had multiple rifts during the latter’s captaincy tenure. Eventually, it was the dispute that led to Ganguly’s removal as the team’s captain.

Ganguly was even dropped from the national team in early 2006 before being selected for the 2007 ODI World Cup played in the West Indies, where India suffered a crashing exit after losing against Bangladesh. Interestingly, it was Ganguly who favoured Chappell as the team coach and he was elected over the likes of Dav Whatmore, Mohinder Amarnath, Graham Ford, Desmond Haynes and Tom Moody.

Meanwhile, Bachchan next asks Sehwag about a situation when India defeats arch-rivals Pakistan. “Shahenshah movie ka ek bada famous dialogue hai (There is a famous line from Shahenshah),” Sehwag replied, as Bachchan recited it: “Rishte mein toh hum tumhare baap lagte hai (I am your father)…” The cricketer laughed, “Hum toh baap hai hi unke (We really are their fathers).”

Ganguly and Sehwag are the first celebrity appearance on the 13th season of the game show, which premiered on 23rd August. In the little time since its start this year, the show has already had its first INR 1 Crore winner in Himani Bundela, a visually impaired mathematics teacher.
