After the biopic of Indian cricket team’s limited-overs skipper, MS Dhoni hit the silver screen and received a comforting response it was time for yet another sports biopic. Aamir Khan’s Dangal just a couple of days after releasing has been touted as the biggest movie of the year. It released on Friday and has grossed 64.60 crores in the first two days.

The movie is inspired by wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat and the struggles and story of his family. How Mahavir hailing from a small town in Haryana missed out on winning a medal for the country and then realized his dream through his daughters Geeta and Babita who under the guidance and training of their father along with a singular vision goal of winning a medal for India turned out to be fine wrestlers.

There was a moment when his eldest daughter Geeta wins the National Wrestling Championship and is picked for training for the nationals at the National Sports Academy. That would be her first exposure of training under some other coach but her father. He fails to read her natural talent as a wrestler and enforces his method which turns her game from aggressive to defensive. The flaw was clearly visible when she suffers a string of losses in the next few bouts.

Mahavir being the man he was, picks up the reason for things going out of place for his champion daughter. That is when Aamir Khan playing Mahavir delivers the inspiring dialogue.  He says, “Yeh toh wahi baat hui ki Virender Sehwag ko bolo ki Rahul Dravid jaise khele. Yeh karne se na woh Dravid ban payega aur na Sehwag reh jayega. (It is similar to asking Virender Sehwag to play like Rahul Dravid. That will ensure he neither becomes Dravid, nor retain his original attributes as Sehwag).”

The dialogue perfectly explains what is wrong with most coaches who while attempting to correct a technical flaw or the game of the individual rather kill their natural ability which is the worst that can happen to a sportsperson.
