The term of the current Indian head coach Anil Kumble ends almost with the conclusion of the Champions Trophy, which means selection of new candidates is on the radar for the role. While Kumble in all likeliness will reapply for the post and should be given a green signal after how India prospered under him the past 1 year, it has been known that a few BCCI officials do not want Anil Kumble as the head coach anymore.

That because Kumble had proposed a raise for himself and the rest of the team. Anyhow, others are eligible to apply for the same post on BCCI’s official website. And recently, rumour had it that former India batsman Virender Sehwag has been approached by BCCI officials to apply for the coach’s post.

However, Sehwag rubbished any such claims while talking to Hindustan Times on Sunday. The BCCI had invited applications for the post of the national team coach earlier this month. Anybody who meets the criteria penned down by on their website can apply for the role. Kumble who holds the position currently will be a direct entry into the applications.

No major coaching experience

Virender Sehwag, on the other hand, has never coached any side, though he served as the team director for the Kings XI Punjab side who finished fifth in the recently-concluded Indian Premier League. Just in case Sehwag wants to apply for the post, which seems unlikely after his statement the dasher will have to present his case before the Cricket Advisory Committee comprised of Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, VVS Laxman.
