Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag has joined in the march to support Varnika Kundu, the 29-year old DJ who was chased on the streets of Chandigarh which nearly turned into a kidnapping case. It has been alleged that Haryana BJP chief Subhash Barala’s son Vikas Barala is the main culprit behind the incident.

Many people, including some influential celebrities, have spoken out in favour of Varnika and the witty Delhite didn’t hold himself back. Sehwag is known to be very active on the micro-blogging site-Twitter, expressing his views on current affairs and off-beat cases. This time too, he didn’t disappoint.

“Chandigarh stalking incident is shameful & a fair probe should be done without any influence. Koi bhi ho,Kaayde me rahoge,Faayde me rahoge,” Sehwag tweeted. Varnika wrote in a Facebook post gone viral that the men blocked her way, banged on her windows and even tried to force the door open. Finally, a police patrol team came, responding to her SOS.

Vikas and his friends were arrested but let off within hours since the charges against them were bailable. The BJP has shrugged off their opposition’s call for the resignation of the minister. Party sources said that the incident doesn’t involve the Haryana Cheif, hence there is no need to drag him into it. In a comment that he has since back-tracked on, Haryana BJP vice president Ramveer Bhatti had said: “Why was she allowed to roam around at night? Parents should not allow their children to stay out late…what is the point of roaming around at night?”

Responding to the barb in an interview to NDTV, Ms Kundu, said: “It is none of his business, it is my business and my family’s what I do and where…If it wasn’t for men like these, I wouldn’t be unsafe going out… whether it was 12 am or 2 am or 4 am.”
