He last played international cricket more than five years ago. Yet, Virender Sehwag often makes the headlines, especially for his witty take on affairs and his fans, who once admired his murderous batting, enjoy every time he flirts with their sense of humour. The latest such instance happened when a current player wished the legendary opener on the occasion of his birthday on October 20.

Indian spearhead Ishant Sharma took the opportunity to wish the former batsman on turning 40. In a tweet, Sharma, who also hails from Delhi as like Sehwag, prayed for a long life for his former Team India colleague and the latter was in his humorous best to poke a fun back at him.

Sehwag, who scored 17,000 international runs between 1999 and 2013 and is the only Indian batsman to score two triple hundreds in Tests, was quick to acknowledge the lanky fast bowler’s wish but only by describing him as “Burj Khalifa ji”.

Burj Khalifa is a skyscraper in Dubai, reaching a height of 2,722 feet, and is among the tallest structures in the world. The analogy is not difficult to understand given Sharma’s height of 6 feet 4 inches.

The 29-year-old bowler, who recently completed 250 Test wickets in the series against England and also finished as the visitors’ highest wicket-taker in the five-match series, is currently recovering from an injury he sustained during the fifth Test at the Oval. He has been rested for the ongoing Windies series and is eyeing to return to the 22 yards fitter for the demanding Australia tour starting next month.

Sehwag also had an interesting take on Ganguly’s wish

Virender Sehwag also had a funny take on the greeting from his former captain Sourav Ganguly. When the latter tweeted saying: “Viru sir happy birthday,” the former swashbuckling batsman responded in a tweet: “Dada, Sir aap hain. Main toh pair.”

The birthday boy also had an interesting exchange with the legendary Sachin Tendulkar after the latter wished him on the special occasion.
