Lancashire’s winning streak came to an end on Sunday when they toured Birmingham after winning all five completed matches in the tournament. Chasing 180 to win, the visitors lost their top three for 28 runs in the mandatory powerplay. Glenn Maxwell’s blitz put Lancashire on top as the Australian smashed eight fours and four maximums on his way through to a 39-ball 79.

Lancs needed 45 from 26 balls when Maxwell got out but only 30 further runs scored. They will now be up against Northamptonshire who is at No.8 out of nine teams in North Group. The Joshua Cobb-led team won only two matches but were unlucky that three of the remaining six ended without a result. The Northants were on the verge of a victory in one of those three washed out matches.
