Former Indian batsman VVS Laxman has come out and congratulated Sunrisers Hyderabad’s duo of Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi following Afghanistan’s historic T20I series triumph against Bangladesh. Laxman is the chief mentor for the Sunrisers and has directly managed both Rashid and Nabi, especially the manner in which SRH played this season around. Laxman was an integral part of the backroom staff especially given the fact that the Hyderabad-based franchise

Afghanistan created history in Dehradun after, for the first time clinching a series against a superior and higher-ranked opposition. They had previously defeated the West Indies in the Wankhede Stadium, something that many have not managed. In fact, the Windies went ahead and won the World Cup from there on.

After winning the toss, Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan had absolutely no qualms about batting first. Shapoor Zadran struck early on to dismiss the solid Liton Das. Although being a rather diabolical batting surface, Tamim Iqbal hung in the middle and fended away the Afghan spinners Mujeeb Ur Rahman and the wily Rashid. However, it was Mohammad Nabi who proved to be pivotal of the bowlers when he dismissed senior statesmen Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah in quick succession.

After this, it was merely a matter of time before the innings came to an end. Rashid Khan came to the fore in spite of Abu Haider’s blitz to ensure a respectable end to the innings for the visitors. As far as the Afghan batting was concerned, Samiullah Shenwari and Mohammad Nabi stitched a partnership that eventually ensured a series victory for the hosts.

Laxman speaks
