Virender Sehwag and VVS Laxman have been friends for a long time. Of course, most of their collaborations have come in recent times in the field of play more than anything else but the fact of the matter is that their collaborations have decreased.

However, their old friendship was once again rekindled when they met each other once again when they shared the commentary box in the India v New Zealand series. While Sehwag was a part of the Hindi commentary team, Laxman was a stone’s throw away from the former Indian opener in the English commentary box.

However, with today being VVS Laxman’s birthday, Virender Sehwag was back to his antics of wishing the former Indian batting stalwart. His tweet read: “Happy Birthday @VVSLaxman281. If Vanigurappa Venkata Sai ji was in Sholay,Gabbar would have said “Yeh kalaai (wrist) humka dede Laxman”

As mentioned in his Twitter handle, VVS Laxman is remembered for his 281 runs in Kolkata. In 2001, it seemed as though the Indians were the only side who could seemingly snap the winning streak of the Australians despite the fact that Steve Waugh’s men were running riot against the rest of the world.

Laxman batted pretty much the entire day as he smashed a few records along with Rahul Dravid as the duo not only saved the Indians from a series defeat, but also an unlikely victory. This incident quite effectively became a part of Indian cricketing folklore.

Incidentally, Virender Sehwag became a massive figure as a part of the Indian team in the subsequent ODI series that followed when he slammed a half-century in the first ODI against the Aussies at Bangalore. This was perhaps the pivotal innings that cemented Sehwag’s place in the Indian squad.
