Former India cricketer VVS Laxman has named his ‘Dream XI’ squad for Tests. One of the most stylish batsmen to have played the game, Laxman has played in 134 Test matches for India, scoring 8781 runs at a healthy average of 45. 97. The wristy customer has also represented India in white ball cricket, as he scored 2338 runs from 86 ODIs at an average of 30.76.

A one-time medical aspirant, Laxman was feared by the Australians during a period where the Kangaroos dominated the game like no other. His 281 against Steve Waugh’s Australia in Kolkata is one of the iconic moments in Indian cricket while his ability to shape up an innings with silken touches has been admired by many.

In his dream squad, Laxman has named 4 Australians. He picked David Warner to open the innings with one of the modern greats Hashim Amla, who plays for South Africa. The 43-year-old has added Aussie skipper Steve Smith in the middle order apart from fuelling his bowling pack with pacers Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood. Interestingly, Laxman has named two Indians in his list- Indian captain Virat Kohli and spin spearhead Ravichandran Ashwin.

Laxman picks the modern greats of the game

Kohli has been prolific this year, going past the 2000-run mark in each of the three formats while Ashwin has had a great home season last year and continues to dominate in Test cricket. Laxman went pretty safe as he picked the best in the business. He has put in New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson in the third spot and Kohli at 4. The next two spots are filled up by the Ashes skippers Joe Root and Smith.

Laxman, who currently commentates with Star Sports, played a gamble and managed to chip in AB de Villiers in the lower middle-order, and the Proteas ‘genius’ has been assigned the glovework. Bangladesh’s all-rounder Shakib-Al-Hasan will have the responsibility to score vital runs apart from getting breakthroughs for his side. While the next three spots are filled by Ashwin, Starc and Hazlewood.
