They say never make a decision when you are emotional, angry, happy or sad. The magnitude of the subject doesn’t matter, just take your time, calm down and then think before you take a decision. It has happened with the biggest of sports stars, from cricket to football, from Shahid Afridi to Lionel Messi. They let emotions get the better of them and as a result, had to backtrack from their statements. The same has happened to former Indian cricketer Ambati Rayudu.

Rayudu was among the five players put on stand-bys during India’s World Cup Campaign. However, he was again overlooked when Shikhar Dhawan got injured, with Rishabh Pant replacing the southpaw. An emotional and hurt Rayudu announced his retirement from every format.

However, Rayudu is now ready to reconsider his retirement. He wrote to Ratnakar Shetty, a member of the committee that is overseeing affairs currently at the Hyderabad Cricket Association, that his decision to retire was an “emotional one”, and that he was “willing to play in all formats of the game” once again.

CSK, Laxman behind his decision

Rayudu also said, “I want to take this opportunity to thank Chennai Super Kings, VVS Laxman and Noel David, who have been very supportive during the tough time and are instrumental in making me realise that I have enough cricket left in me.” He added, “I am looking forward to a wonderful season ahead with a very talented Hyderabad team and help the team realise its full potential. I will be available from September 10 to join the Hyderabad team.”

HCA chief selector Noel David welcomed Rayudu’s decision and called it as a piece of good news for cricket in the state. Hyderabad finished seventh in Group B in the 2018-19 Ranji Trophy season and David says, “I still believe Rayudu has five years of cricket and groom youngsters which is more important for us. Last year without him, we struggled in Ranji Trophy,” David expects Rayudu’s presence to have a major positive influence on the other players as he will be playing in all the formats.

In a bid to earn a place in India’s World Cup squad, Rayudu had announced his retirement from first-class cricket in 2018. He hasn’t played a first-class game in November 2017. Rayudu was a part of the experiment process as India struggled to find a suitable number 4 batsman and in the end, he was dropped.
