It is time that we add the name Vangipurapu Venkata Sai Laxman to the list of cricketers who have shared their life experiences with the masses in the form of a biography. The former Indian cricketer who turned 44 yesterday made the special announcement today. VVS Laxman unveiled the cover his upcoming book titles ‘281 and Beyond’.

It is a book based on his cricketing life and more than just that. This doesn’t come as a surprise that he chose to name it 281 and Beyond as it was the knock against Australia that brought him in the limelight. At the same time, despite some unbelievable achievements right through his career, this is one of Laxman’s knocks that will remain immortal in the cricketing history.

Special announcement

He had told his fans on social media about a special announcement today. A few hours later he posted a tweet unveiling the cover and also shared the pre-order details. Laxman wrote- “Presenting the book cover of #281AndBeyond. Read the story of my life, on and off the pitch. You may Pre-order now”

Talking about his innings against Australia, it was the Eden Gardens Test back in 2001. The invincible Australian team led by the legendary Steve Waugh was in ascendance in the game having already forced the hosts to follow-on. It isn’t a common sight that a visiting team dominates India at home. That’s when Rahul Dravid and Laxman played probably one of the best knocks of their career and pulled the team out of the pits.

A sheer expression of grit, determination and the belief that they could defy the inevitable saw the Indians, in fact, take a lead in the 2nd innings that proved far too much for Australia to chase back. As a result, they won the Test match and it went down in the history as the first time a team lost after imposing follow-on in a Test.

Laxman retired from international cricket in 2012 having played 134 Test matches and 86 ODIs. He has 8781 and 2338 runs to his name in the respective formats along with a total of 23 hundreds and 66 fifties combined. In the second innings of his career, the Hyderabad lad is working as a commentator and is loved for his style as well as opinions.
