Watch: Waqar bowls a dangerous beamer to Andrew Symonds: The atmosphere was electrifying at Johannesburg as Australia and Pakistan locked horns in the group stage encounter.

Australia were floored at 86-4, as Andrew Symonds turned out to be the unlikely hero. He smashed 18 boundaries and couple of towering sixes to take Australia to 310. He remained not out till the end, as he carried the bat in fashion, courtesy this big knock.

But all was not that easy, as it didn’t turn out to be a cake walk for “Roy”. The 49th over turned out to be an eventful one, as Symonds smashed one out of the park. Waqar was quick to reply back, as a thundering beamer treated Andrew Symonds next. Waqar was not done yet, as he once again bowled one to Symonds, this time “Roy” looked furious. David Shepherd had a word with the Pakistani skipper and he was taken out of the attack. Waqar didn’t look happy, while Afridi came on to finish the remaining three balls. Andrew Symonds ended up scoring an unbeaten 143.

In reply, Pakistan could only manage 228, as they were cleaned up with 33 balls to spare. Australia won the match by 82 runs and they went on to win the world cup, thanks to their all-round performance.
