Pakistan thrashed the tournament favourites and the hosts England by eight wickets in the first semi-final of ICC Champions Trophy. Very few believed that the ever unpredictable Pakistan would go on to beat the rampant England side. Hasan Ali was deservedly awarded Man of the Match for his brilliant bowling figures of 3/35.

England skipper Eoin Morgan accepted that his team didn’t adapt to the conditions well. “One thing we didn’t do was adapt to conditions, coming from Edgbaston to a used wicket, Pakistan did that well and played better,” he said.

Waqar Younis took to the micro-blogging site to express his disappointment and slammed Morgan for his comments. “Stop giving that lame excuse Eoin Morgan regarding the used pitch,,,, You guys been thrashed fair n square by Pakistan,” he tweeted.

The legendary bowler seems to have completely backed Pakistan for their exuberant performance on the field. Pakistan outplayed England in every aspect of the game today and they deserve full credit for their efforts. Such comments from the captain of the international team are not expected and Morgan should have praised the opposition for their dominance.

The way England bowled and fielded during the opening partnership between Fakhar Zaman and Azhar Ali showed that they were least expecting such a dominance over them from Pakistan. The team which huffed and puffed to a target of 236 the other day, cantered to victory today with ease with 13 overs to spare.

Pakistan will now face the winner of the second semi-final which is between India and Bangladesh. India are the tournament favourites and Bangladesh are another team which has surprised one and all. This edition of Champions Trophy has been one of the best as the less fancied have given the top teams a run for their money.
