Young Tamil Nadu all-rounder Washington Sundar was an instant hit in the Indian Premier League this year. Sundar was one of the top contenders for the Emerging Player of the Season award. The 17-year old all-rounder played the role of the second spinner in the Rising Pune Supergiant franchise. Primarily known for his batting prowess, RPS skipper Steve Smith used Sundar for his bowling abilities.

He was a thorough performer in the season where he bowled with the new ball in the powerplay overs. Washington Sundar played a key role in taking the RPS team to the finals of the tournament. He was drafted in the RPS camp as a replacement for Ravichandran Ashwin after the veteran Indian campaigner had to bow out of the season due to sports hernia.

Sundar certainly made the most out of the opportunities he got and announced his arrival at the big stage. Now that the tournament has concluded, Washington Sundar was back to his native state Tamil Nadu to participate in the Division 1 league game. Playing for the Globe Trotters SC, Sundar smashed a brilliant 150 against the Grand Slam CC in one of the fixtures.

As it happened

Globe Trotters were asked to bat first after Grand Slam CC had won the toss. They lost the wicket of opener Anirudha Srikanth in the very first over on a duck. Sundar came in to bat at number 3 and added a mammoth 275 run stand with Mukunth K. The two players took 235 deliveries for their herculean partnership for the third wicket. Sundar hit 152 off just 125 balls with 12 fours and 7 sixes in the match. Mukunth, on the other hand, plundered 118 off 119 balls. They ended with a score of 341/7 in their 50 overs.

In the run chase, the Grand Slam CC could not do much and succumbed meekly as they were bowled out for a paltry 209. With that, Globe Trotters won the match by 132 runs.
